Throat Infection Relief Solutions

Sore throat is an irritation or inflammation of the throat, caused by bacterial infection, viral infection, or injury. Many sore throats are associated with the common cold & fever .

1. Drink lots of water and urinate a lot. Your body needs anywhere from 9-12 cups of warm water a day to keep hydrated, and that's on a normal day.

2. Get plenty of vitamin C and antioxidants.Vitamin C is an antioxidant, meaning it helps fight against cells called free radicals, which attack other cells and are responsible for the aging process.
  • Some foods rich in vitamin C include: cantaloupe, citrus, kiwi, mango, papaya, pineapple, strawberries, watermelon, broccoli, cauliflower, spinach, green and red peppers, sweet and white potatoes, tomatoes, and squash.[2]
  • Some antioxidant-rich foods include: red beans, wild blueberries, kidney beans, pinto beans, cranberries, artichoke, blackberries, dried prunes, raspberries, apples, pecans, and cherries.
  • Drink lots of green tea. Green tea has plenty of antioxidants, so in addition to being healthy and great-tasting, it's a great quick fix for your pesky sore throat.

3. Make yourself a reasonably hot soup. Soup will help soothe your throat and provide you with both nutrients and liquids. But bear in mind that very hot beverages are seriously bad for your throat, so let it cool down before you eat it.

4. Gargle with warm salt water. Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water.

5. Use steam to target your sore throat. Take a steamy shower twice a day.

6. Drink honey and lemon. Add a squeeze of lemon and some honey to hot water. Drink after the liquid reaches room temperature. The honey coats and soothes your throat, while the lemon cuts through the mucus. This tried and true remedy is said to relieve most of your throat pain.
  • Alternately, try drinking honey and lemon in green tea.
  • Lemon and ginger tea is also reported to be an effective antiviral, although no studies have confirmed this.
7. Wash your hands often.

8. Get lots of rest.

9. Avoid dairy, such as ice cream, milk, and butter. In some people, dairy increases mucus production.

10. Avoid overly sugary foods such as cupcakes or cake while suffering from sore throat. Sugary foods can irritate the throat, so it's best to stay away.

11. Make garlic tea. This can work well, as garlic is a natural antibiotic.
  • Cut some fresh garlic into small pieces (medium slices).
  • Put the garlic pieces into a mug/tea cup. Fill with water.
  • Put the cup inside of the microwave. Boil for two minutes.
  • Remove the cup. While still hot, take out the pieces of garlic.
  • Add your favorite teabag (preferably a flavored one to kill the smell of garlic), such as vanilla flavor.
  • Add some honey or other sweetener (enough to make drinking tasty).
  • Drink (it will taste really good thanks to the teabag and sweetener). You can have as many cups as you like.
